The papers contain drawings, notes for speeches, newsletters and journals, photographs, and travel journal. Correspondence of Kehr with nurserymen and members of the American Rhododendron Society concerns the cultivation of azaleas and rhododendrons. Topics include seed and plant exchanges; registration of new hybrids; research; botanical expeditions; controversies; shipments and imports; diseases; tissue culture; and rhododendron genetics. The American Magnolia Society, Kenyan culture and agriculture prior to independence, and Kehr genealogy are also discussed. The collection also contains articles and speeches by Kehr and his associates; diagrams of the chromosome structure of azaleas; and newsletters and conference material from rhododendron and azalea societies. There are also notes and articles regarding the history of the American Rhododendron Society; nursery price lists; issues of the Rhododendron, 1961-1970; bylaws and some correspondence of the Rhododendron Species Foundation; photographs and slides; completed questionaires on rhododendron breeding; and a journal of a 1977 trip to China with the American Vegetable Farming System Delegation.
